O'Reilly User Group Membership
We are a member of the O'Reilly User Group & Professional Association Program. See http://ug.oreilly.com/ for general information about this scheme.
This gives the following benefits:
- 35% discount on all O'Reilly books and no P&P.
This requires using the "UK shopping cart" on http://www.oreilly.com/ and quoting reference OR111.
(When adding a book to the shopping cart, use the "Add to UK cart" button, and then, presumably, give OR111 as the promotional code.)
I believe that books then get posted to the secretary (erm, me) to be passed on. We'll find out the details the first time someone does it.
- Review copies of O'Reilly products, provided we publish the review on our website/wiki (technically, it could also be in "our newsletter", but I'll ignore that in the absence of such).
The original email also suggests:
"""but also why not send them to amazon.co.uk, slash dot or any other online sites of your choice? (there is a list of new books listed in the Newsletter from which you can select book(s) of interest to your group)."""
To request a review copy, we just need to send them an email with the title and your postal address.
If anyone wants to do a review, email me for the contact details.
- Donations of books and other promo items
- Speaking engagements with O'Reilly authors when possible
- Electronic Newsletter - monthly
- Printed catalogues (max 10 copies)
They also sent an introductory package of various things, which I took to the June pub meeting (see the report thereof for more information).
It all sounds like a good thing to me.
(If anyone wants to see the original email from the organiser at O'Reilly, let me know)
